Congenital heart defects are the most prevalent birth anomaly, occurring in approximately 1% of live births and encompassing a spectrum from simple septal defects to complex cyanotic lesions. Advances in cardiac surgery, catheter-based interventions, and perioperative care have dramatically improved survival into adulthood. Management of the growing population of adults with congenital heart disease presents unique long-term challenges.
