The Life Science Feed uses Google AdSense to display advertisements on this website. Google AdSense and other third-party advertising networks may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and to other sites across the internet. This is commonly referred to as interest-based or behavioural advertising.
Specifically, Google uses the DoubleClick cookie to serve ads to our visitors. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet. No personally identifiable information is shared with Google in connection with advertising.
How to opt out of interest-based advertising
You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. If you are in the European Economic Area, you may use the Your Online Choices tool to opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies. You may also opt out via the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

Managing cookies in your browser
You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being set. Disabling cookies may affect your ability to use certain features of this website. For guidance, visit your browser's help pages or aboutcookies.org.
5. Analytics and performance cookies
We use analytics tools to understand how visitors interact with our website, which articles are most read, and how traffic flows between pages. Analytics cookies collect information in aggregate form; they do not identify individual visitors. Data collected by analytics providers may be transferred to servers outside the European Economic Area.
We do not share analytics data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
6. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, we process your personal data on the following legal bases under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Contract: Processing necessary to operate your account and deliver services you have requested (e.g., newsletter subscription, saved articles).
- Consent: Where you have given us explicit consent, for example to receive marketing emails or to allow personalised advertising cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
- Legitimate interest: We have a legitimate interest in understanding our audience (analytics), maintaining the security of the platform, and improving our editorial content, provided this does not override your rights and interests.
- Legal obligation: Where processing is required to comply with applicable law.
8. How long we keep your data
- Account data is retained for as long as your account is active, plus up to 24 months after deletion to comply with legal obligations.
- Newsletter consent records are kept for 5 years after your last interaction or until you unsubscribe.
- Server logs and analytics data are aggregated and anonymised within 14 months.
- Advertising cookie data is governed by the respective third-party provider's retention policy. Google's DoubleClick cookie has a default retention period of up to 13 months.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR and applicable Irish data protection law, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: You may ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure: You may request deletion of your personal data where there is no compelling reason for us to continue processing it.
- Right to restriction: You may ask us to restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to data portability: You may request a machine-readable copy of data you have provided to us.
- Right to object: You may object to processing based on legitimate interest, including for direct marketing.
- Right to withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@thelifesciencefeed.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission (Ireland), our supervisory authority.

11. International transfers
Some of our service providers, including Google and Supabase, process data in the United States or other countries outside the European Economic Area. Where data is transferred outside the EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, or adequacy decisions where applicable.
12. Use of artificial intelligence
The Life Science Feed uses generative AI tools to assist in the research and drafting of articles. All AI-assisted content is reviewed and approved by named editorial team members before publication. We do not make significant automated decisions about individuals using AI.
