Sciatica refers to radicular pain in the distribution of the sciatic nerve, most commonly caused by lumbar disc herniation compressing a nerve root. The majority of cases resolve with conservative management including physiotherapy and analgesia within 6–12 weeks. Epidural corticosteroid injections, surgical discectomy, and multidisciplinary pain management programmes address persistent or severe cases.
