Neuropathic pain conditions, including trigeminal neuralgia, post-herpetic neuralgia, and diabetic peripheral neuropathy, are characterised by pain arising from somatosensory system injury or disease and remain challenging to treat. Gabapentinoids, tricyclic antidepressants, and SNRIs are first-line pharmacological options, though response is partial in most patients. Sodium channel blockers and novel neuroinflammation-targeting agents are advancing in development.
