Systemic lupus erythematosus is a chronic, multisystem autoimmune disease with a predominantly female and young adult patient population, characterised by unpredictable flares and accumulating organ damage over time. Hydroxychloroquine remains the foundation of management; belimumab and anifrolumab represent the approved biologic additions to the treatment armamentarium. Type I interferon pathway inhibition and CAR-T cell therapy are among the most exciting emerging approaches.
